Now in its 21st season, The Chiltern Camerata is a Buckinghamshire-based string orchestra whose players include music professionals and advanced amateurs. Under the direction of Sam Laughton the orchestra performs music from a widely drawn repertoire. Our objective is to share the enjoyment of music-making and to bring a wide range of music to our audiences. Some of our concerts help to raise funds for charity.
Our guiding aim is to entertain audiences to music, ranging from the baroque era through to the present day, in a friendly, un-stuffy environment.
We stage three concerts a year and through them we provide occasional opportunities for soloists to perform with an orchestra. Often we combine with wind players, choirs and others to offer a wider range of music than the typical string repertoire. As a non-profit organisation we simply seek to cover the costs of staging our concerts.
We rehearse during school term time at at Holmer Green Baptist Church see map and the “Rehearsals” tab. Orchestra members pay a subscription for the pleasure of playing in each concert and receive no fee.
Over the years audiences have enjoyed a wide range of music (see past performances tab above).
Whether or not you play an instrument, if you love music and live in or around South Bucks, we hope to see you at our concerts.
BECOME A FRIEND OF THE CAMERATA?
We would like to develop closer links with audience members and those who support us in other ways, and so we have decided to introduce a ‘Friends of the Camerata’scheme. Becoming a friend does not necessarily involve paying any money, although of course donations and financial sponsorships are always welcome and will be appropriately acknowledged! Friendship can come in other forms too, especially by helping the orchestra in practical ways, including publicity and general organisation. So if you might be interested in assisting us in any way at all, do please contact us for further details.
